The body of sin. Rom 6.
Rom 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
It’s easy to over think a question and get all tangled up in trying to answer it. This usually causes more problems. So, keeping things simple can be very helpful.
Let’s look at some of the examples of the body of sin.
Rom 12:4 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:
Rom 12:5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.
1Co 12:12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
1Co 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
1Co 12:14 For the body is not one member, but many.
1Co 12:15 If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
1Co 12:16 And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
1Co 12:17 If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?
1Co 12:18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.
1Co 12:19 And if they were all one member, where were the body?
1Co 12:20 But now are they many members, yet but one body.
1Co 12:21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.
Here we see the “body” of Christ, as being the saints, or children of God. These make up the church.
This body is a collective body. Each person having a different usefulness in strengthening the whole.
Here we see the body of Christ, as working together in unison to accomplish a given goal. (Aka ministry)
It should be noted, that Christ is the HEAD of that body. It is HE that does the administration.
Since we have the scripture that teaches the working of the body, it can be understood, there are OTHER bodies, all of them working the same way.
There are bodies of government, bodies of physical churches, bodies of spiritual churches, bodies of beliefs and doctrine. Etc.
What we are looking at is: The body of sin!
Rom 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin
Rom 7:23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
Rom 7:24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
Who is the “head” of the body of sin? Since Romans 6:6 tells us, the body of sin is destroyed by killing the “Old man”, it can be understood, the “old man” is the head. But who is “the old man”?
Eph 2:3 Among whom also we all had our conversation (lifestyle) in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature (Natural inclinations) the children of wrath, even as others.
Rom 7:14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal (evil wicked nature), sold under sin.(bondage)
(Sold under sin?) See Rom 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh (are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Gal 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Gal 5:21 Envying’s, murders, drunkenness, reveling, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Q. Question! Who is the “head” of the body of sin?
Answer? The CARNAL Nature! The old man is the carnal nature! He is the head of the body of sin!
Carnal: the works of the flesh. See Gal 5:19-21
Nature: that which is the normal tendency, the motive of the affections, our original character by default. Natural inclinations
What does the body of sin, consist of?
The carnal mind: Rom 8:7
Evil thoughts Isa 59:7
The wicked tongue: Jas 3:6
The deceitful heart. Gen 6:5, Jer 17:9
Blood guilty hands: Prov 6:17
Evil Feet: Isa 59:7
Eyes full of adultery 2 Pet 2:14
A life style that makes them the children of hell. Rom 1:26-32
In the “body of sin”, we see there is a head: (the evil nature of a sinful heart,) that does the administration of sin, in its darkest form.
We also see the body has parts in particular, mind, thoughts, eyes, etc.: each one with its distinctive working of sin. But working together to accomplish a unified goal: OUR DAMNATION!
Then we saw the body, working together, to create the greatest damnation possible. Covering all of our parts and those around us who are coping us! Particularly Children.
Where did this evil nature come from? ! Rom 5:12,14. Adam and Eve, in the very beginning
This is why Jesus Came! destroy the works of the devil! 1Jn 3:8b For this purpose, the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

.
Note: Romans Chapter 6 uses the word “Baptized”. This word means “to enter into.” We often hear this word when people are being baptized. We suppose it involves water. But the biblical use of the word does not need water. WE use the water as symbolic of our entering into the works of Jesus, and by it have obtained Salvation!
Note: for further biblical application on “Baptize” , see Articles “Baptism part 1”, “Baptism part 2”
