the body of sin.

NOTE it is very important to understand the biblical meaning and biblical application of the word “baptism” to understand the cure for the body of sin. (baptism has very little to do with water!) it is recommended to read the article titled “Understanding baptism”, before undertaking to read “the body of sin”.

The body of sin. Rom 6.

Rom 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

It’s easy to over think a question and get all tangled up in trying to answer it.  This usually causes more problems. So, keeping things simple can be very helpful.

a body is a collective group, that established the whole.

What does the body of sin, consist of?

The carnal mind: Rom 8:7

Evil thoughts Isa 59:7

The wicked tongue:   Jas 3:6

The deceitful heart. Gen 6:5, Jer 17:9

Blood guilty hands: Prov 6:17

Evil Feet: Isa 59:7

Eyes full of adultery 2 Pet 2:14

A lifestyle that makes them the children of hell. Rom 1:26-32

We see the body has parts in particular, mind, thoughts, eyes, etc.:  each one with its distinctive working of sin. this collective group of parts is called the body of sin. this body of sin is working together to accomplish a unified goal: OUR DAMNATION!

Where did this evil body come from? Adam and Eve!

Rom 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Who is the “head” of the body of sin? Since Romans 6:6 tells us, the body of sin is destroyed by killing the “Old man”, it can be understood, the “old man” is the main instigator of the problem.  But who is “the old man”? the title of “Old Man” is given to the main controller of the “body of sin.” That main controller is our natural tendency to commit sin.

our natural desires to sin is the old man! OUR sinful nature is the head, that controls the rest of the body to sin.

Eph 2:3 Among whom also we all had our conversation (lifestyle) in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature (Natural inclinations) the children of wrath, even as others.

Nature: that which is the normal tendency, the motive of the affections, our original character by default. Natural inclinations

the “old man”, “the body of sin”, our “deadly lower nature”, “the works of the flesh” are bunched together and called carnality, or carnal!

Rom 7:14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal (evil wicked nature), sold under sin.(bondage)

sold under sin implies being a slave to. we are a slave to whatever or whoever, we obey.

Rom 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey, whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

in obeying our carnal hearts or out carnal mind, we commit the following sins! labeled as the works of the flesh.

Gal 5:19  Now the works of the flesh (are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

Gal 5:20  Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

Gal 5:21  Envying’s, murders, drunkenness, reveling, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

This is why Jesus Came to destroy the works of the devil!

1Jn 3:8b For this purpose, the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

How did Jesus destroy the works of the devil?

Rom 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Rom 4:25  Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

Rom 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Col 2:12  Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
Col 2:13  And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
Col 2:14  Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

 Why did Jesus do it?

1Jn 1:9  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1Jn 3:5  And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.

1Jn 3:8  He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
