Remembering the glory.
Scripture: Heb 2:1-3
Text: Earnest Heed.
Heb 2:1 Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.
Heb 2:2 For if the word spoken by angels was steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;
Heb 2:3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;
I. A. Earnest: to pledge or to Bind, with sincerity, seriousness, commitment, with zeal.
B. Heed: to regard, pay attention, carefully consider.
II. earnest heed to the things which we have heard.
What have you heard? What has God spoken to you about? What has the spirit revealed to you? What deep cutting, dark sin do you wish to avoid at all cost? When God brought you out, what truth did he impart to your souls? What form of righteousness or what part of piety have you neglected, till Gods truth has slipped out of your soul?
The admonition in this verse is very clear: Give every earnestness to what You’ve heard, lest you let them slip!
When your first-love of God grows cold, formal, intellectual, then mark it down, you have let them slip.
It’s not enough to look back and say I remember when, we must look inwardly, at the here and now and ask, Do I still have it?” or did I let it slip away?
I challenge you to get alone somewhere, and remember, meditate, recall all the events and details of your seeking God.
Remember what God did and What God said! Remember it all, don’t lose one precious memory! Write it down if you have to.
Remember:
your great load of shame and conviction and guilt.
How it embarrassed you and hurt others.
How it haunted you afterwards.
Your regret and hopelessness.
Your secret fears and apprehensions.
Your loss of courage and self-esteem.
Your outward laughter but inward shame.
Your searching for peace, and never finding it.
But most of all, Remember.
the Still small voice of God that began to speak to you.
The possibility of hope.
The light of his truth, that revealed your inner need.
The question marks of:
Is this really true?
Can this really be?
Is there really an answer to my mess?
Can God forgive even me?
Does God really know about me?
Does God really care?
Can God give me peace?
Remember:
When you asked God to forgive you?
Your awkward and stumbling prayer?
That feeling of weight being lifted off your heart?
The peace that filled you up?
The tears that ran down your face?
The joy you had from the inside out?
The love you were given for God and his word?
How it lasted for days?
Remember.
The hunger you had for Gods word.
When you prayed, how good it felt, knowing God heard you.
The excitement of being saved and feeling clean.
The former things that made you ashamed, seemed so far away.
That commitment you made to never go back.
How God met with you in your devotions or in your prayer time.
That voice so kind and loving.
His presence that filled you with his glory.
The praise that flowed so naturally and real.
That church service, where God came and filled you again.
The fellowship you had with the saints and precious it was.
That testimony that you couldn’t hold in, and had your heart pounding.
Remember these things, write them down! Never let them slip away and be forgotten. Give the more diligent heed to embrace The reality of those things which you have seen and heard and do and rejoice!
Don’t ever let that first-love grow cold. What has God said to you?
Remember these things, but also remember the joy and the glory and the victory of living every day the race set before us!
From glory to glory!
filling to filling,
victory to victory
light to light
the valley’s back to the mountain tops!
Faith to faith.
EVERY DAY!
Keeping yourself in the faith, is to live day by day in the love, victory, and grace of God.
The question is not “can God keep you?” but rather “are you keeping him”!
If Satan can steal your joy today, he has stolen your crown forever!
Heb 2:1 Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.
